Air India Starts Cadet Pilot Program For HSc Pass Students

Air India is setting up its own Training Academy in Gurgaon, India, to impart training to pilots, cabin crew, ground staff, security personnel and engineers. And has partnered with leading flying schools from across the globe.

Candidates can join the 2-Year Cadet Pilot Program after clearing their Class 12 exams.

The Air India Training Academy is in partnership with global original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to provide best-in-class training support and to create a customised curriculum that meets the standards envisaged by Air India. 

The Training Academy will house simulators for pilot training across the Air India fleet where Commercial Pilot License (CPL) holders from the Air India Cadet Pilot Programme will be given type ratings as per Air India’s fleet requirements.

The courses delivered through this programme will focus on best-in-class training and will be directed towards making you an Air India pilot from day one.

School partners

Air India has partnered with top-flight schools across the globe to offer superior training, adhering to the highest standards. Two schools, AeroGuard Flight Training Center and L3Harris Flight Academy, in the United States have been chosen for the Cadet Program.

Employment with Air India on completion of program: Only the candidates who successfully complete the Cadet Pilot program and meet Air India group’s requirements will join Air India as a Trainee Pilot (subject to change as per airlines pilot trajectory).

Eligibility

a) Must be a citizen of India.

b) Age: 18 to 30 years.

c) High School Education Certificate (National Institute of Open Schooling is also accepted) with 60% in 10+2 including 60% marks in each of the following subjects English, Mathematics & Physics.

d) Good command of written and spoken English.

e) A minimum height requirement of 158 cm.

f) Should be in good physical and mental health. Candidates will be required to clear a medical test (DGCA Class 1 Medical) prior to starting flight training.

Class 1 medical certificate is required to be a commercial pilot. The DGCA Class 1 Medical Exam Standards for Pilots assesses pilots on various physical and mental abilities.  The medical tests required for obtaining a DGCA Class 1 Medical Certificate include (but not limited to) - Vision and hearing tests, electrocardiogram, blood tests, urine tests, physical examination, general health, colour vision, blood pressure, chest X-ray.

The minimum acceptable visual acuity is often 6/6 or 20/20 in each eye (with or without corrective lenses). Some authorities may permit correctable vision up to 6/9 or 20/30

Program duration: On average, it takes approximately 1.5 years (varies as per the student’s capability) to complete all the course requirements to obtain a Commercial Pilot License (CPL). After that, students will move to the Air India Training Academy for a type rating. It should take approximately 2 years to be “type-rated” on a Boeing or an Airbus aircraft type thereby becoming a type rated commercial pilot.

Training in India and overseas

a) Candidates will do their CPL Ground training in India.

b) Candidates will do their CPL flying training at the Air India school partners facility. At present Air India has partnered with two schools for the Cadet Program:

i) AeroGuard Flight Training Center, has locations in Phoenix (AZ), Chandler (AZ), and Austin (TX). Air India cadets will be based at their Phoenix location.

ii) L3Harris Group, has training locations in the United States and the United Kingdom. Air India cadets will be based at their Sanford (FL) location in the United States.?

Selection process

Phase 1: Screening - The candidate applications will be evaluated based on the defined eligibility criteria.

Phase 2: Online Assessment - The shortlisted applicants will undergo an online assessment to assess their quantitative & behavioural skills.

Phase 3: Personal Interview - The shortlisted applicants from Phase 2 will be asked to report to Air India Training Academy for personal interviews.
